Meet the Team: Elizabeth “Miami Spice” Selva

Elizabeth joined our team in July of 2017 after graduating from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration last May.  As a Revenue Analyst, she has a portfolio of hotels that she will be overseeing as well as assisting on other projects keeping her very busy here at Kriya RevGEN!  Read on to learn a little bit more about Liz!

Tell me a little about where you came from and your previous experience.

Miami, FL… What other calls the “Vegas” of the south, I called home for 18 years. It’s where I learned to fall in love with nature and where I learned some important life lessons such as how to outrun gators and how to throw a mean Hurricane party in the middle of a State of Emergency.

In the Fall of 2013, I packed my bags and traded my flip-flops and bathing suit for a pair of snow boots and a Canada Goose Jacket when I moved to Ithaca, NY to study at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. Focusing on hospitality as a career path came natural to me as it has played a crucial role in my upbringing in South Florida.

I was eager to come home and use the knowledge I had acquired to make a positive difference on my community. My first job was as a front office intern for a brand property in Miami Beached called the Metropolitan by COMO.  I then went on to work as a Accounting intern for two independent properties in South Beach, and finished off my college career as a Marketing and Product Development intern for a luxury travel company called American Excursionist.

Fast forward to the Summer of 2017, I made the trek from Miami, FL to Dallas, TX to start my new journey into adulthood as a Revenue Analyst!

You left paradise. So why’d you move to Dallas?

Because the commute from Miami to Dallas was a bit out of the way, haha! I was actually really excited to experience a new part of the country. I have spent my entire life on the east coast and was ready for a change.

How long have you been with Kriya RevGEN?

I have been a happy member of the Kriya RevGEN family for 2.5 months and have been loving every second of it. I really appreciate how inclusive and supportive everyone has been during my transition to Dallas. I am eternally grateful for the support I received when I was stressed out about my home and family during Hurricane Irma!

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job right now is getting comfortable with the amount of information I am taking in right now. Juggling multiple properties can seem a bit overwhelming when you’re learning about multiple properties at once, but I am starting to develop my unique style as a Revenue Manager.

 What is the most exciting?

I really enjoy the creativity that is involved with revenue management. When you’re managing properties in different markets, you quickly realize that certain solutions are more favorable for certain markets. Finding the right strategy and knowing your comp set’s behavior feels like a chess game, which I find stimulating.

What’s your favorite hotel?

The Springs Resort & Spa at Arenal in Costa Rica is by far, my favorite hotel in the world. It holds a special place in my heart because it was the last property I stayed in when I studied abroad in college with Semester at Sea!

What is your favorite brand to manage?

I love Hilton’s because it has been the more complex brand to learn and I enjoy a good challenge!

What is the best taco in Dallas?

I haven’t tried them all yet, but I will say that Velvet Taco holds a special place in my heart.

What’s your favorite office lunch spot?

Yummy Thai! Tio Carlos’ fans will hate me, but I think Yummy Thai is a more exciting place for a Friday meal!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you want it to be?

Tacos. There are so many kinds of tacos and I could never get bored.

Can you rank your preferences in Hubert’s Lemonades?

I most certainly think I am qualified to sponsor Hubert’s Lemonades, since I bring one everyday to work. Here is my honest ranking of the best Hubert Lemonade flavors:

1: Mango Lemonade
2: Blackberry Lemonade
3: Peach Lemonade
4: Strawberry Lemonade
5: Raspberry Lemonade
6: Cherry Limeade
7: Lemonade
8: Watermelon Habanero Lemonade
9: Watermelon Lemonade

What’s your favorite Pandora station to listen to in the office?

I am a loyal Spotify user and really enjoy the Discover Weekly playlist because it gives me something to look forward to on Mondays!

As a resident of Irving, what’s your favorite tourist attraction in Las Colinas?

Without any hesitation, I must say that the Gun Range is my favorite tourist attraction because I didn’t even realize I lived right next to a gun range for two months, haha.
